Shoulder Pain Care in Greenville

intense shoulder painHealthy bodies aren’t supposed to hurt—and neither should your shoulders. At Brown Chiropractic Center, we carefully examine the structures and nerves of the shoulder and surrounding areas to figure out what’s causing pain. Through expert adjustments and soft tissue work, we restore your body to proper positioning to relieve discomfort and keep it away long term.

Tracing Pain to the Nerve Roots

Shoulder injuries aren’t all the same. Some come from damaged nerves, while others involve bones , muscles and soft tissues. The brachial plexus is a huge group of nerves that starts in the spinal cord at the base of the neck and travels through the shoulder all the way down into the fingers. The brachial plexus includes three major nerve roots: the radial, ulnar, and median nerves. Any or all of these nerves could trigger pain, which is what makes this area sensitive.

Locating the Source of Injury

An injury to the neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, or hand can aggravate the nerves of the brachial plexus. For example, an injury to the neck may cause nerve pain in the trapezius muscle at the top of the back and shoulder. This can be so uncomfortable that some call it a toothache in the shoulder. In other cases, pain results from injuries to the muscles, ligaments, and tendons. There may also be an injury in the bursa, a shock absorber cushioning the bones.

Relieving Pain Naturally

Chiropractic care helps by aligning the shoulder, neck, and back so everything is where it belongs. Dr. Brown will examine all the supporting structures from your vertebrae down through your arm so we don’t miss any possible cause of pain. From there, we’ll use adjustments to correct imbalances, releasing pressure from the nerves so they can heal.

We may also do soft tissue therapy to relieve pain in your muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Therapies include ultrasound, low-voltage muscle stimulation, cold laser therapy, or tractioning to help soft tissues heal.
