As a chiropractor in Greenville, I see dozens of patients every year who have been injured in auto accidents. The most common accident my patients have fallen victim to is a rear-end collision. Unfortunately those accidents are not usually avoidable. But there is another kind of accident my patients tell me about with surprising frequency. Can you guess?

My Number One Avoidable Car Accident

Imagine you are trying to turn left. You are in the turning lane, the light is green, and you are waiting for oncoming traffic to clear. The light turns yellow and there is only one car coming, and they have plenty of time to stop. Just as you turn, that car speeds up to beat the light and slams into your passenger door.

I hear some version of this story at least once a month. Although still not 100% avoidable, just being aware of the danger can help you negotiate that left turn safely. Do not take it for granted that the oncoming car sees you, sees the light change to yellow, or actually even cares that the light is about to change. While you cannot assume the other car will not speed up, you can make sure that you get on the gas and get through the intersection and out of harm's way as quickly as you can. Be aware of the danger, and when in doubt, just do not pull out.

If You Are Injured in a Car Accident

If you do find yourself on the wrong end of a left turn collision, getting evaluated promptly is one of the most important things you can do. Auto accident injuries including whiplash, neck pain, and back pain do not always produce immediate symptoms. The adrenaline response that follows a collision can mask significant soft tissue and spinal injury for hours or even days. By the time the pain appears, the injury has already had time to progress.

At Brown Chiropractic Center we treat auto accident injuries every week and work directly with personal injury cases. If you were in an accident in the Greenville area, call our office and let us evaluate what is going on.
